Success! Record Breaking Holiday Donation Drive

You outdid yourselves this time! Our previous weeklong fundraising record was $2,690 for The Art League's SOHO mentoring program in October. Thanks to your amazing holiday-inspired community spirit, we helped raise a total of $2,735 for Community Partners for Children's Holiday Donation Drive. This year, the need was greater than ever with more than 350 families needing assistance through the City's Holiday Sharing Program. More...

The Arlandrian: Arlandria: When A Plan Comes Together

With all eyes either gazing in adoration or glazing over in rage at the waterfront plan, a small, community-spurred plan to bring about changes in a struggling, but hopeful neighborhood has finally come to fruition. The Long Road The Vision from the 1998 Plan. The Arlandria community has been planning for change longer than any other neighborhood in Alexandria. We are now a decade into implementation of theArlandria Revitalization Plan, the result of the City and community-supported 5-year planning effort from 1998 to 2003. Broadly stated, the goal of the Plan was to build on the strength of Arlandria as a pedestrian-oriented, mixed-use place through the redevelopment of underutilized sites. Re-development of the "oppurtunity sites" was the anticipated catalyst for the proposed revitalization. More...

We are still putting the finishing touches on the final document, but so many people are looking for ways to donate items now, we thought it was a good idea to publish what we have.

Victory! Alexandria Higher Achievement Scholars Get Precious Field Time Thanks to you

higher_achievement_victory Way to go Team ACTion Alexandria! Thanks to you, we raised $1,000 for Higher Achievement, enough to send 90 Alexandria scholars on 4 well-deserved field trips!

Field trips are critical to the success of Higher Achievement scholars. They are able to build relationships with mentors, interact with the community outside the center, and feel recognized and celebrated for their academic achievement.

This success wouldn't have been possible without a $500 match from the RunningBrooke Fund,
