The 5th Annual Big Event

The 5th Annual Big Event is a wonderful way to give back to your community in commemoration of the lives lost on September 11 ten years ago.  Each Saturday closest to September 11, Volunteer Alexandria holds a youth service event completely planned and carried out by youth volunteers.  This year, 20 high school students from T.C. Williams and other nearby schools have worked all summer, 2 to 3 days each week, to bring about this year’s Big Event.  Here’s a brief schedule and highlights:

Location:  Landmark Mall, parking lot in front of Sears
8-10 am drop off of used bikes for Bikes for the World
9 am Registration, training, breakfast
9:30 Jane Collins of Get Out and Give Back gives send off speech
10 am youth leave in teams with adult supervisors, head to service sites
1 pm youth return from service sites for lunch, DJ and chance to win prizes

Have fun!  Meet new friends!  Serve your community!  Pack in 5 certified service hours for school requirements, honor society, academy requirements and college applications right at the beginning of the school year!
