This week's Nonprofit Spotlight is Community Lodgings!
What is Community Lodgings?
Its a local nonprofit that has been helping the community since 1987. Community Lodgings has grown to provide housing for many families that were either homeless or qualified through low-incomes.
What is Community Lodgings' Mission?
Community Lodgings’ mission is to lift families from homelessness and instability to independence and self-sufficiency through Transitional and Affordable Housing, and Youth & Adult Education Programs held at our Fifer Family Learning Center.
Program Highlights:
- Transitional Housing: Funded in part by the City of Alexandria, this program provides transitional beds and support to homeless families and individuals. It currently provides housing and intensive case management for an average of 23 homeless families annually.
- Youth Education Program: This program is for children ages 8 - 18 who are at-risk and come from low income families. Also, parents are taught how to handle parent-teacher conferences, family health and SOL preparation.
- Adult Education: This program offers ESL classes and literacy courses for 50 adults as well as workshops on parenting, job counseling and finance.
- Affordable Housing: Community Lodgings provides housing to 32 families at less than the market rate and in accordance with HUD guidelines for 1-3 bedroom apartments. The low-income, predominantly Latino families in these apartments are able to participate in Community Lodgings’ free youth education programs, adult ESL and parent education classes.
