  • Art on the Avenue will take place on Saturday, October 1st.  For the seventh consecutive year, a pie baking contest will be held.  Winners will receive a cash prize, and after judging, pie slices will be sold at $3 per slice.  The money raised will benefit the non profit organization, Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN).  For more info and to download your entry form, visit Art on the Avenue's website.
  • Read this article, which appeared in The Alexandria Times, about ACPS Superintendent Morton Sherman's hopes to get parents and residents involved in the planning for the new Jefferson Houston School.  It is expected that the project will be completed in 2014, and public meetings will be an intricate part of the agenda.  The superintendent is pushing for more community involvement, but stresses that "the building needs to be replaced as quickly as possible."
