What is Senior Services of Alexandria?
Senior Services of Alexandria (formerly Senior Citizens Employment & Services) is a full-service community organization with more than 40 years experience dedicated to helping Alexandria's seniors.
Senior Services of Alexandria's Mission:
To foster independence and self-sufficiency, enabling seniors within the City of Alexandria to age with dignity.
Program Highlights:
Senior Servics offered a variety of programs for volunteers and donors to participate in.
- Meals on Wheels: Gets nutritious meals to seniors who are unable to leave their homes to get groceries or have difficulty cooking in their homes. Over 200 volunteers and 4 partners make it possible for Senior Services to feed approximately 42,000 seniors per year.
- Senior Taxi: Reservations made a day in advance take seniors to and from medical appointments, pharmacies and grocery stores. $4 will get seniors anywhere within the city limits (to and from) and $5 (to and from) within 5 miles of the city limits. This service provides approximately 15,000 rides per year.
- Resource Center: Senior Service's Resouce Center provides seniors, their families and caregivers all the information needed to ensure proper guidance and services are available to Alexandria's seniors.

Come help kick off inauguration weekend with a celebration to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and volunteer! On Saturday, January 19th, hundreds of volunteers will assist nonprofit agencies providing services to people in need as well as provide educational activities to children and youth. In Alexandria, volunteers are needed to assist children and teenagers creating a story book. Volunteers are needed for set up, registration, implementing arts and crafts projects, clean up, and much more. Adult volunteers are needed to facilitate discussion groups with a smaller group of children. Interested adults should contact Jason Ellis at 
On Tuesday September 4th, the transformation of one of Community Lodgings’ five apartment buildings will begin – a full-fledged renovation! When I took over as Executive Director seven years ago, I set a long-term goal to ensure all our families lived in safe, comfortable homes. Over the years, out of sheer financial necessity, I was forced to take a “band-aid” approach to building repairs. Seven years later, with help from HomeAid Northern Virginia, Pulte Homes and the City of Alexandria, our long-term goal becomes reality.
