Our Nonprofit Spotlight is on Community Partners for Children
What is Community Partners for Children?
Since 1991, this organization has been dedicated to Alexandria's children of need. Throughout the year it focuses on two main projects. The organization has a close working relationship with the Alexandria Department of Human Services, public school social workers, as well as various community service organizations. This allows it to provide assistance to those most vulnerable in our community: our children.
Community Partners for Children's Mission:
Community Partners for Children is a community-based nonprofit organization that works to better the lives of needy children in Alexandria.
Program Highlights:
- Back to School Supply Drive Donations
Each school year over 5,000 ACPS kids receive school supplies from Community Partners for Children. The items are donated to the organization from individuals, businesses and other organizations. A social worker then distributes the supplies to eligible students. The Drive happens in August but donations are accepted year long.
If you're interested in donating, please email Kendra Chambers, [email protected].
- Toy Drive
This year marks the 21st Annual CPC Toy Drive. Last year over 600 kids benefited from the drive. The Toy Drive is looking for donations of new toys, infant and toddler items, 10-12 year old toys as well as grocery store gift cards. Its more than just a toy give-a-way, its a whole day of fun thanks to volunteers that help CPC put on a Winter Wonderland for the children and families receiving gifts. Volunteers help families select items, sort and count donations and do arts&&crafts; with the kids. You have until December 16th to donate. Click here to see all the drop off points.
If you're interested in volunteering, please email Kendra Chambers, [email protected].

On Tuesday September 4th, the transformation of one of Community Lodgings’ five apartment buildings will begin – a full-fledged renovation! When I took over as Executive Director seven years ago, I set a long-term goal to ensure all our families lived in safe, comfortable homes. Over the years, out of sheer financial necessity, I was forced to take a “band-aid” approach to building repairs. Seven years later, with help from HomeAid Northern Virginia, Pulte Homes and the City of Alexandria, our long-term goal becomes reality.
