Make-Your-Own-Green-Cleaning-Supplies Workshops and Resources

Offer practical workshops and public guidance on how to make non-toxic, kid and pet friendly, green cleaning products for Alexandria homes.  This will help the environment in multiple ways, while also saving money and supporting healthy living. Recipes for making your own green cleaning supplies will be shared with the wider Alexandria community through local listservs and websites (including ActionAlexandria website, local parents’ listservs, and OldTownAlexandria Patch). Residents of Alexandria who attend the hands-on workshops will learn to make multiple household cleaning products that they will take home after the workshop.   The workshops will be hosted at the city of Alexandria public libraries and/or recreational centers. The workshops will be offered monthly for 5 months starting in the summer of 2014, for up to 30 participants in each workshop. A person from the greater DC area experienced in making cleaning supplies for domestic use will be invited to lead the workshops.  The $1,500 award will be used to purchase workshop supplies, cover the trainer’s fee, and the costs of organizing the workshops.   Workshops and information resources will be organized by EcoVentures International (EVI), an small Alexandria-based, non-profit enterprise training and market development organization that supports the development of environmentally and socially sustainable initiatives.   Graphic source: (Free use permissible):

Healthier Families, Households and Environment

Alexandria is headed in the right direction, but we can always do better! Families with young children and pets are always searching for non-toxic, inexpensive and environmentally-friendly ways to keep our homes clean. Saving the air, water and land from the harmful impacts of chemicals is also an investment in the future of the community. This is a fantastic proposal.
