About
Founded in 1936, the Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington ® is the largest local prevention of blindness agency in the United States, dedicated to improving and preserving sight through services, education, advocacy and innovation. POB screens more than 8,000 children annually for vision loss and strabismus and 6,600 adults for glaucoma. POB also serves thousands of low-income and homeless persons at its eyeglasses clinic each year. In addition, the organization sponsors the Aging Eye Network, the Macular Degeneration Network and the Stargardt's Network. The Look Again Resale Shop in Alexandria has been supporting POB's sight-saving programs since 1992 with the sale of antiques, furniture, collectibles, clothing, books and more. The store depends on the generosity of area residents for donations of gently used items, which are available for purchase at fantastic prices. All store proceeds go toward making POB's vision programs in the community a reality.
