The National Science Foundation and Code for America's Northern Virginia Brigade are teaming up again to host our second annual National Day of Civic Hacking.

Join civically engaged residents and technology enthusiasts-from industry, non-profit, government and education sectors-as we create exciting new civic-based applications and improve existing ones. The National Day of Civic Hacking will be held on May 31, 2014 from 8am-9pm (breakfast and lunch will be provided).

Developers, tech integrators, project managers, designers, data geeks, UXers, communications enthusiasts, technophiles, public policy aficianados and anyone who wants to discuss or create technology to improve local government are invited to attend.

Special Alexandria Playground Event!

In the spirit of the day, one community challenge will draw help from – who else? – the community. We're calling on local families and kids to go out and PLAY! Families will play an integral role by gathering data for Project Play's new app that will map local playgrounds in Alexandria and flag helpful information for families. On Saturday, May 31, head to an Alexandria playground near you and answer a short survey on different features in the playground. (i.e. whether or not the park is shady, has swings, is dog-friendly, has a baseball diamond, etc.).
