Master Gardeners of Northern Virginia are holding an Autumn Open House at the Simpson Park Gardens on Saturday, October 22, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. Observe the basics of garden design, layout, focal point and more while Master Gardeners lead you on a tour of the waterwise, scented, tufa, flagstone and butterfly gardens. Refreshments will be served. Park in the YMCA lot.

Last week, I attended an Alexandria Environmental Policy Commission meeting to pitch a green ideas challenge on ACTion Alexandria for Alexandria's Eco-City initiative in the near future. I don't know about you, but this week's earthquake brought a new level of significance to our Healthy Families Alexandria Home Safety Kit action. There is nothing more important than making your home as safe as possible for your family.
