Founded in 1945, The Campagna Center operates high-quality programs that support children in Alexandria by providing services that allow them to arrive at school ready to learn and ensure they are academically successful at each grade level.  The agency provides services to adults and families in areas related to education and self-sufficiency.  The agency reaches over 1,700 children and families through its various program options.

The Campagna Center’s Mission

 To draw together the resources of the Alexandria community to strengthen families and provide programs that help children become caring, productive adults.

Program Highlights

  •  Alexandria Head Start: Promotes school readiness for preschool children from low-income families living in the city of Alexandria through the provision of educational, health, nutritional, social, and other services. 
  • Early Head Start: Provides care and comprehensive services (social, physical health, mental health, and nutrition) for a infants and toddlers and expectant mothers. Emphasis on the need for intervention at the earliest age. 
  • Campagna Early Learning Center: Offers quality, affordable full-day preschool program for children ages 3 - 5. The research-based curriculum has a strong literacy component, and integrated theme units that reinforce science, art and music, numeracy, and other kindergarten-readiness skills. 
  • Afternoon Adventures: An extended-day child care service for parents participating in early childhood programs. 
  • Summer Safari: A six-week summer program for children ages 3-5.  
  • Campagna Kids: A licensed before- and after-school care program providing enrichment for children grades K - 5 at eleven of Alexandria's elementary schools. 
  • Building Better Futures: Provides tutoring, mentoring, life skills, leadership development and college preparation programming to students at the T.C. Williams High School in need of extra support. 
  • New Neighbors:  Offers educational programs and related services to help immigrant and refugee families become self-sufficient and fully participating members of our community.

 How You Can Get Involved 

  • Program-focused Volunteering:  We need mentors, tutors, and leaders for arts and crafts, games and other activities.  
  • Administrative Volunteering: Help with various administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, copying, mailings, etc. Weekday hours between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm are preferred. Length of time served and days/hours served are flexible according to availability. 
  • Group/Employee Volunteer Projects:  Help the Campagna Center through a team-building exercise and give back to our community!  The Campagna Center can work with your group/organization to customize a volunteer project that meets your particular needs and goals.
