National Bicycle & Pedestrian Documentation Project

Alexandria needs your help!

The Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee is leading an effort to begin Alexandria's participation in the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project (

BPAC is in the process of prioritizing count locations, and will finalize them by their next meeting.  They have brainstormed 20-30 locations, but will only be able to count at as many locations as they can staff with volunteers. Help is needed!  Count locations are prioritized based on ridership, safety concerns, and needs for future infrastructure and accommodations, while also seeking as broad a geographic reach throughout the City as possible.
The first counts will take place Thursday, July 7th (5pm-7pm), and Saturday, July 9th (12pm-2pm).  In order to participate as a counter, you must attend a training session.  Training ensures that our counts are consistent and accurate, and gives our overall effort credibility.
The training sessions are:

6:30pm-7:00pm, June 20th: Durant Center, 1605 Cameron Street, Alexandria VA
9:00pm-9:30pm, June 20th: Durant Center, 1605 Cameron Street, Alexandria VA
Please RSVP to Andrea Hamre ( if you plan to attend one of the above trainings.  If you are unable to attend one of the above trainings but would still like to participate as a counter in July, please email Andrea.  If there is sufficient interest for a third training, one will be scheduled.

Participation is also planned in the primary count period, which will occur in September.
