Local Weekend Guide
There is a great line up of events this weekend from shopping at Old Town boutiques and yard sales to free yoga. Here are some of the highlights from the event calendar:
Saturday, 9/21
Old Town Boutique District's Annual Scavenger Hunt: Join fellow shoppers in the 6th annual Scavender Hunt from Friday to Sunday. Participants who visit all 37 stores will be eligible to win one $3700 grand prize or one of the 37 $100 prizes. Free goodie bag included!
Mile Long Yard Sale: This mile of great merchandise will be held on Taney Avenue by Patrick Henry Elementary School from 8:30am-2:00pm. A wide array of items will be for sale including tools, furniture, clothing, and crafts.
YoKid Yoga Challenge: Join YoKid & Whole Foods market for a day of yoga and free healthy snacks! This annual event for kids and adults will feature a yoga sun salutation challenge, healthy eating exercises, and a goal setting activity. Festivities start at 2:00 at the Mount Vernon Recreation Center. Registration is encouraged (the first 300 registrants receive a free yoga mat!).
Health Careers Fair for High School Multicultural Youth: Project Health 4 All invites high school students to learn about various health careers from 3-6pm at the William Ramsay Recreational Center. To register, click here.
Ninth Annual Alexandria Doggie Day Swim: Give your favorite canine some time at the pool this weekend from 3pm-7pm at the Old Town Pool. Admission is free. To register, click here.
Alexandria City Council Public Hearing: The public hearing meeting will be held at 10:30am in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Click here for the docket and reports.
Potomac Yard Bus Tour: The Alexandria City Council will host a Potomac Yard development update and bus tour from 8-10:00 am leaving from Pulte Homes Sales Office (2400 Main Line Blvd). RSVP to [email protected]
Beatley Central Library Open House: Throughout the day on both Saturday and Sunday, Beatley Central Library invites the community for music, face painting, book swaps and more!
Tean Hope Walk and 5k Run: Join the Washington Metro Chapter of the Huntington's Disease Society of America in a 5k race and walk at Cameron Run Park. Registration starts at 8:00 am. The 5k race starts at 9:00am and the walk will follow at 9:15am.
Sunday, 9/22
American Doll Tea: Meet Felicity, the American Girl Doll, as you enjoy a patriotic tea from 11am-1pm at Carlyle House.
International Chamber Orchestra of Washington Inaugural Concert: The International Chamber Orchestra of Washingotn wlil perform at 4:00pm at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial.
Cambodian Community Day: A day featuring arts and crafts, Cambodian food, live music, traditional games, and children's activities held at Ben Brenman Park from 11am to 6pm.
Mike Elosh Performance: Mike Elosh will perform "Baltimore" at the Four Mile Run Farmers & Artisans Market. Click here to listen to a sample of his music.
