  • In another blog post, Councilman Rob Krupicka writes with passion about the Alexandria Mentoring Program and how public service honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. He comments that many citizens often ask how they can help T.C. Williams and Alexandria's youth, but the City still cannot meet the demand for mentors. "In a city with 150,000 people," he remarks "this should not be the case."

Hope of Arlington proposed legislation last Tuesday that would prohibit weapons inside the Virginia Capitol and the General Assembly Building.  Though Sen. Patsy Ticer supports it, the legislation is expected to be opposed by some Conservatives and gun-rights activists.  Del. Hope strongly believes such a bill would improve the safety of everyone on the Capitol's premises.
  • Check out "Winter Safety for Seniors," an  informative series of articles by Alexandria resident Michael Bergin.  Part One suggests that seniors keep in touch with friends and relatives.  Part Two discusses possible supplies one may need to be comfortable, or deal with an emergency.  Part Three will focus on winter weather terms and tips for keeping utilities in working order.
  • Read this inspiring profile on Peter Salamme, a resident of Arlington, who is making it his mission to volunteer in all 50 states in 50 weeks.  Salamme has lent his carpentry skills and tireless work ethic to Habitat for Humanity since 1992.  The 59 year-old recently told Mt.
