IMPORTANT READ: Meeting Needs Today: A Needs Assessment of the Alexandria Human Services System
The Alexandria Council of Human Service Organizations (ACHSO) is a joint partnership between ACT for Alexandria, the local community foundation, and the City of Alexandria's Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS). ACHSO convenes City and nonprofit human services organizations to make connections, share resources and better serve the Alexandria community.
In 2008, ACHSO published a report on the human services needs in Alexandria. Recently, ACHSO updated this earlier report with new data collected from the input of hundreds of nonprofit, government and community representatives. The result is a study outlining nine key issue areas for Alexandria, including affordable housing, early intervention for physical and behavioral health and development issues for youth, bridging the information gap for immigrant non-English speakers, bridging the eligibility gap between subsidy levels and income needs, and enhancing nonprofit advocacy, specifically at the state and local levels.
