Help Carpenter's Shelter Rebuild!
Friday April 12, Carpenter’s Shelter experienced a fire. We were very fortunate to identify the fire quickly thanks two of our fearless volunteers who alerted the staff immediately. Fortunately no one was injured.
We have had an amazing outpouring of concern and support from the community. While the fire damage was minimal, the shelter experienced extensive smoke and water damage. The total cost of the damage is estimated to be over $42,000. Carpenter's Shelter is fortunate to have insurance cover a portion of the cost, however, the restoration of the shelter will cost the shelter over $10,000 in out of pocket expenses.
Please help to support the shelter as we recover from this event. We created a special fire recovery page, Carpenter's Shelter Fire Relief Campaign. All donations help in this recovery effort. We appreciate your continued support as we continue to help the homeless achieve sustainable independence.
Carpenter’s Shelter supports the homeless achieve sustainable independence through shelter, guidance, education and advocacy. Carpenter’s Shelter opened its doors in Alexandria in 1988, and serves over 1,000 homeless and formerly homeless individuals every year.
