This Week: Reward 90 Alexandria Higher Achievement Scholars

End Date: Wed, 09/21/2011 - 11:59pm
Send 90 Higher Achievement scholars to the field!

Help reward Alexandria Higher Achievement scholars with some hard-earned fun and recognition.

This week, we’re helping Higher Achievement reward hardworking scholars in Alexandria by sending them on after school field trips during the school year.

Middle school is a pivotal time for children because the choices they make about friends and school can affect them for the rest of their lives. Higher Achievement’s rigorous after-school and summer academic program gives youth from at-risk communities their best opportunity to succeed in middle school — and in life.

On average, 95% of Higher Achievement scholars who complete the program advance to top academic high schools and 93% advance to college.

After school field trips are critical to the success of Higher Achievement scholars. A few hours of fun provides scholars with a way to build relationships with mentors, opportunities to interact with the community outside the center, and recognition and celebration of academic achievement.

Our fundraising goal is $500. $500 will send 90 hardworking Alexandria scholars our for some well-deserved recognition and fun.

Brandi and Tracy,I was so glad to be able to contribute to Higher Achievement at this time.  My daughter, Virginia, volunteered as a teacher with Higher Achievement in 2006, its first year in Alexandria, just after she had graduated from William and Mary.  Higher Achievement's venture across the river from DC, where it had been so successful, was viewed with some uncertainty that summer, but now we can all be proud of how well the organization has done and how many of Alexandria's youth have benefited from the program.  Virginia went on to teach English through the Peace Corps in Ukraine during the next 27 months and she always has credited Higher Achievement for helping prepare her for that challenge.Best Wishes,Gay Pasley

The Higher Achievement scholars work so hard all year-round and really look forward to these after-school adventures.  So glad we can support them through this action!
