Scholarship Fund, ESL Classes, Washington Redskins Football and More: This Week’s Latest ACTion

  • Councilman Rob Krupicka asks Alexandrians to take note that on Sunday, November 7th, the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria will host the 2010 Annual Telethon at T.C.   • The City recently announced the need for volunteers to teach ESL classes at George Washington Middle School.  Every volunteer will receive training to instruct classes held on weekday evenings from 6:30-9:30 PM. If Interested, contact Ricardo Drummond at (703) 746-7512.
  • According to the Carlyle Community blog, on November 13th, two days before the Washington Redskins face the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football, the NFL will sponsor the ‘Fit For You’ 5k walk/run event.  It will benefit the NFL Play 60 Challenge and the American Heart Association.  The race/walk, which will begin at the National Plaza in National Harbor, Maryland, is scheduled to start at 8:30 AM.
  • Continue to follow the Caryle Community blog’s coverage on the opening of a new Walmart located at 6303 Richmond Highway.  The store is reportedly environmentally friendly and promises 275 job openings.
  • Don’t forget to get your flu shot.  As reported last week, the Alexandria Health Department is vaccinating people for free.  This year’s vaccination helps guard against the seasonal flu and the 2009 H1N1 virus.
