Sponsor an Alexandria Animal

Sponsor an animal to help the wildlife in Alexandria!  Through this project, children would Adopt a Great Blue Heron or Adopt a Box Turtle through donations in cash and/or community service.  A child who adopts a turtle would get a stuffed animal turtle, with a certificate of sponsorship and information about the animal and where it can be found in the City.  The donations would be used to fund habitat restoration along streams or in forests, for example.  Classes and student groups could adopt a flock or even adopt a creek through community service days or other activities. Other adoptees could include eagles, beavers, frogs, migrating birds, snakes, and other creatures that need clean and protected open space. For the practical types out there who look at the bottom-line, this project would be easy to implement, and the costs would be limited to purchasing stuffed animals and publicizing the program. Implementation could be run through Dora Kelley Nature Center and other city-run institutions or citizen committees.
