The Alexandria City School Board is taking the next step in the redistricting process to address capacity challenges across the school division.

ACPS is inviting members of the Alexandria community to apply for a Redistricting Review Committee. The role of the committee is to review options developed by an independent third party. The goal is to capture the most appropriate plan and strategy to address current and future elementary school capacity needs across Alexandria City Public Schools.

Any final recommendations regarding redistricting need to be made by the School Board by February 2016 in order to implement new school boundaries for the 2016-17 school year.

Committee members will be chosen through an open application process with preference given to individuals who meet all of the following qualifications:

• Is a resident of the City of Alexandria.
• Is willing to attend two committee meetings per month from September 2015 through February 2016.
• Has some understanding of ACPS and its operations.
• Has at least one student in the school which they are representing with the exception of the community at-large member.
• Is willing to provide committee progress updates to and seek input from various civic, school and community organizations.
• Has the ability to remain objective in the committee and community engagement process.

Applications will be accepted through June 30, 2015. The selection of the committee will be made in September.
