Fun Green Business Classes and Camps for Aspiring Youth Entrepreneurs

Share:

Support local teachers and youth workers to deliver fun, green business classes for youth. This will inspire ongoing training for green youth entrepreneurs in our neighborhoods, while developing business skillsets and green mindsets!   A two-day training-of-trainers course will build the capacity of teachers and other adults working with youth, such as Alexandria City public and private school teachers, and staff of afterschool programs and camps in Alexandria, to deliver a green youth business course. The course has been rolled out in youth programs in other parts of the country and comprises 30 – 40 hours of learning material. The course teaches youth to find green business opportunities, to set up a group-based business as part of the training, and to run successful green businesses. The curriculum is easy to use, adapts to the level of youth involved, and allows youth to have fun while internalizing critical business concepts and skills. The curriculum includes theoretical and practical tools that incorporate business simulation game components together with instructional workcards containing activities, and guidelines for debates and discussions.    The 2-day teacher training will be delivered in a training room in Del Ray in Alexandria, VA in the summer or fall of 2014. The training will gather approximately 20 youth workers and teachers who together work with hundreds of youth in the area. The $2,000 award will be used to cover costs of printed curriculum materials, training supplies, and the costs of organizing the training.   Teacher training workshops and curriculum will be provided by EcoVentures International (EVI), a small, Alexandria-based, non-profit enterprise training and market development organization that supports the development of environmentally and socially sustainable initiatives.
