About

King Street Cats is proud to be the only cat-exclusive, no-kill rescue facility in Alexandria, Va. We are 100% volunteer-run and rely solely on private donations. With no paid staff every dollar donated goes to the welfare of our cats. We celebrated our 10 Year Anniversary in 2013; prior to 2003, we were known as The Albert Foundation. King Street Cats houses 30 cats on average in our home on Dove Street and because we are free-roaming, you can come and hang out on the weekends with the "cat-friendliest cats" in town! Our mission is to rescue, provide safe haven, and necessary veterinary care until the cats and kittens in our care find their forever homes, and to educate and assist the community in regard to cat welfare. We accomplish the latter through outreach to the local community by providing information on proper cat care, behavioral problems and other issues involving cats. If you call or email us, we will respond! We also assist local residents in locating and retrieving lost cats and assist individuals through the cat adoption process. We promote spaying and neutering, and all our cats and kittens are sterilized and fully up-to-date on shots prior to adoption. We also provide post-adoption support for adopters and anyone else that needs cat care advice. Because we only work in the area of cat welfare…we know cats! We believe that every cat, regardless of age or purrsonality, deserves to have a forever home and our cats stay with us until that home is found. We specialize in providing a safe haven for cats that traditional shelters and rescues often cannot or ask us to take as their time is up: pregnant cats, nursing cats and newborn kittens as well as senior cats and cats with special needs. If we have room, no cat is turned away.In 2013, King Street Cats rescued 326 cats and kittens, and found forever homes for a record 303. In 2014, we received a Top-Rated Nonprofit award from Great Nonprofits for the third year running; and King Street Cats was voted one of Alexandria's Favorite Nonprofits in the annual Alexandria Times' "Best of Alexandria" poll. We are a proud partner with Best Friends Animal Society's No More Homeless Pets Network, which is a network of animal organizations committed to saving the lives of homeless pets through effective adoption and spay-and-neuter programs.
