About

When you absolutely want to improve Alexandria

ACT for Alexandria (ACT) represents Alexandrians at our best - filled with affection for our city and heart for our neighbors, but also pragmatic and effective.  ACT gets things done.

From its launch in 2004 onward, ACT has proven its worth as a community foundation.  ACT continually raises local philanthropic giving to new levels, increases the abilities of existing service agencies and organizations to help others, and brings Alexandrians together to create new solutions to community problems.

ACT brings ordinary Alexandrians together and helps them accomplish extraordinary things.

The Giving Circle of Alexandria began as 25 individuals, motivated to make a difference collectively.  Through support of ACT, The Giving Circle was started with a grant and strategic support.  Within their first two years, the group grew to 300 women and have raised over $200,000 for parental engagement programs.  With ACT's assistance, The Giving Circle has developed its own new solution:  a best practice playgroup program for at-risk families.

The Center for Alexandria's Children is another very special result of ACT's focus on innovation and collaboration.  This child advocacy center provides a single, supportive environment for victims of child abuse, as well as resources for parents.  Here, children receive sensitive, integrated care and attention from human services, law enforcement, and other professionals, and parents can learn new parenting skills and be supported.

ACT proves that when Alexandrians become involved - as donors, volunteers, or service providers - we can make a real difference in the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors.
