The City of Alexandria will kick off a community meetings series for the Waterfront’s Landscape and Flood Mitigation design process with an Evening with Laurie Olin, renowned landscape architect, Tuesday, October 15, 2013, from 6:30 – 8:30 PM at the United Way Worldwide Building, 701 N. Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA. 

This public meeting will give Alexandrians an opportunity to hear directly from Laurie Olin on the philosophy that guides him in designing award winning preeminent public spaces, parks, waterfronts and flood mitigation features around the world.

 

Alexandria has selected Laurie Olin’s  firm, The Olin Studio, to assist the City in taking the illustrative concept drawings in the approved Waterfront Small Area Plan to the 15-30 percent design level, over the next 9 months, working in close collaboration with URS Corporation, engineering experts, selected to assist with flood mitigation improvements needed at the City’s Waterfront.  

 

This community meetings series is intended to afford the public with opportunities to track the design work and to provide input. The full series will be announced shortly on the City’s Waterfront Small Area Plan website. All meetings are free and open to the public.
