The Friends of Alexandria will hold a Java Jolt with the acclaimed author of "Civil War Northern Virginia 1861", William Connery. Having lived in Northern Virginia since 1989, Connery, who has often contributed to the Washington Post and the Civil War Courier, will provide incredible insight on the City of Alexandria and the counties of Arlington, Loudoun, Prince William, and Fairfax during the Civil War.Of course, admission is free, but reservations should be made by calling 7037464399 or by emailing archaeology@alexandria.gov.

Come help kick off inauguration weekend with a celebration to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and volunteer! On Saturday, January 19th, hundreds of volunteers will assist nonprofit agencies providing services to people in need as well as provide educational activities to children and youth. In Alexandria, volunteers are needed to assist children and teenagers creating a story book. Volunteers are needed for set up, registration, implementing arts and crafts projects, clean up, and much more.
