Friday April 12, Carpenter’s Shelter experienced a fire. We were very fortunate to identify the fire quickly thanks two of our fearless volunteers who alerted the staff immediately. Fortunately no one was injured.
Last weekend saw the opening of 4MRMarket. We saw a good turnout and lots of people happy to see the market back at 4109 Mt. Vernon Ave. 
ACT for Alexandria and ACTion staff are deeply saddened by the tragedy yesterday at the Boston Marathon and extend our deepest sympathies to all affected.
Following a couple recent successful stream clean-ups and park renovations, a cadre of volunteers will be back at it again this upcoming weekend planting about 2 dozen trees in Four Mile Run Park.
Come help kick off inauguration weekend with a celebration to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and volunteer! On Saturday, January 19th, hundreds of volunteers will assist nonprofit agencies providing services to people in need as well as provide educational activities to children and youth. In Alexandria, volunteers are needed to assist children and teenagers creating a story book. Volunteers are needed for set up, registration, implementing arts and crafts projects, clean up, and much more.
