Volunteer Alexandria - Volunteer Reception Center Orientation Available

Volunteer Alexandria is looking for volunteers who would like to help run Volunteer Reception Centers, should a disaster affect the Alexandria area. A VRC provides a central location where spontaneous, unaffiliated volunteers can go to be placed in volunteer positions to assist with disaster recovery. On May 29, 2013, Volunteer Alexandria will conduct a VRC Orientation from 1:00-2:00 pm at 123 N. Alfred Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.

Volunteer Alexandria Old Town Arts & Crafts Festival - Event Volunteers
301 King Street, Market Square, Alexandria, VA 22314
Volunteers are needed June 16, 2013 to assist the artists with unloading their cars at 7 am and load their cars at the end of the day at 9 pm. Volunteers with face painting experience needed for children’s activity between 10:30 am and 5pm, two-hour shifts available.

Alexandria Childhood Obesity Action Network - Garden Volunteers

Volunteers needed to work with youth ages, 5-9 years old, in the “I Can Shine” vegetable garden every Tuesday between now and October 15, 2013.

Alexandria Juvenile Court — Receptionist
520 King Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Volunteers needed to answer phones during the day for the Juvenile Court system (Court is open from 8am – 4pm). Hours are flexible and training is provided.

Alexandria Visitors Center at Ramsay House - Alexandria Tourism Volunteers

Volunteers needed to welcome and assist visitors to Alexandria. Volunteers should have knowledge of Alexandria and its history, computer and excellent customer service skills.

Goodwin House - Music and Computer Volunteers

Volunteers age 16 + needed to play the piano or violin, and sing. Volunteers are needed to assist seniors with computer operation.

Lee-Fendall House Museum - Immediate and Ongoing Volunteers

Liberty's Promise - Job Skills Workshop Volunteers

Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) - Emergency Volunteer Training

Volunteers are needed to support public health in an emergency or disaster. Volunteers will receive free preparedness training and participate in drills and exercises. Training in a variety of topics, including public health, emergency management, CPR, First Aid, and more. Many positions in the MRC do not require medical skills.

Meals on Wheels Association of America - Office Assistant Volunteer

National Organization for Victim Assistance - Advocate Certification Volunteers

SOHO (Space Of Her Own) — Volunteer Mentor Orientation Sessions
The Art League Madison Annex, 901 N. Fairfax Street, Alexandria VA 22314
SOHO is an art-based mentoring program that allows local low-income pre-teen girls to attend artistic and life skills workshops with mentors, culminating with renovation of the girl’s bedroom. Volunteer orientation sessions will be held on Tuesday, May 21 from 5:30-7:30 pm and will provide details about SOHO, the mentor commitment and the application process. City of Alexandria Department of Community and Human Services is looking for volunteers to help Alexandria and Arlington Medicare recipients and caregivers understand and access insurance benefits. Work with clients as a Counselor or help with community outreach and awareness. No experience required – training is provided.
