Support Your Neighbors In Need! Double The Dollars For Low Income Families.
HELP YOUR NEIGHBORS!
Do you enjoy fresh fruits and vegetables? Shouldn’t every Alexandrian?
Help bring fresh and local foods to all Alexandria residents by supporting our Old Town Farmers’ Market Double Dollar Program! This program helps customers on Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Benefits (SNAP) buy more food at the Old Town Farmers' Market located in Market Square in front of City Hall.
Double Dollars are bonus market tokens which match every SNAP (Food Stamps) purchase at the market dollar for dollar up to 10 dollars per weekly visit. That means that a family can double the amount of healthy produce they are able to buy and prepare every week.
Between April 2013 and April 2014, Old Town Farmers’ Market customers purchased $2,205 worth of SNAP dollars and were matched $1,183. The initial funding for the Double Dollar program was made possible through a $2,000 grant from the Alexandria Childhood Obesity Action Network.
Our goal is to raise $3,000 this month so we can sustain the Double Dollar program for this Market season and expand our outreach to more families in need.
HERE IS HOW YOUR GIFT CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE:
$25 helps a family buy more fresh food for 2 weeks.
$50 helps a family buy more fresh food for 1 month.
$100 helps a family buy more fresh food for 2 months.
$250 helps 5 families buy more fresh food for 1 month.
All gifts to our Matching Dollars are tax-deductible.
