Season of Giving: Carpenter's Shelter Thanksgiving Drive
Helping the homelessness at Carpenter’s Shelter is so much more than giving those in need a warm place to sleep. At Carpenter’s Shelter we work to identify and correct the root cause of homelessness. We are dedicated to the success of our residents while they’re living in the shelter but more importantly, once they are living on their own in the community. Statistically, 28% of individuals’ recently experiencing homelessness become homeless again within a year. Thanks to your continued support, last year, only 5% of our residents became homeless again. This is a tremendous step toward our mission to help the homeless achieve sustainable independence.
Every fall, Carpenter’s Shelter holds a Thanksgiving Drive to collect the ingredients needed to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving meal. We would never want one of our families to have to choose between paying their rent on time and providing food for their children. Last year we provided baskets to over 100 families in need and we hope to the same this year. You can support our efforts by donating directly or Carpenter’s Shelter or starting a collection within your neighborhood, office or group. We have a full listing of items needed here.
More important than cans and turkeys is the opportunity to support our families beyond the holiday season. This year we are also collecting grocery store gift cards as a part of our Thanksgiving collection. These gift cards allow us to provide support to our families throughout the year, alleviating some of their financial burdens. Please consider supporting Carpenter’s Shelter by donating to our Thanksgiving Drive this holiday season.
