Local Weekend Guide, 9/28-9/29

This weekend is crammed full of family events and fundraisers to support the Alexandria community. Here's the line up for Saturday, 9/28 and Sunday, 9/29: 

Saturday, 9/28


Rock & Stroll to End Homelessness: Proceeds from this 5k run and walk benefit 5 Alexandria based nonprofits dedicated to ending homelessness. Registration starts at 9:00 at Cameron Run Regional Park in Alexandria. Fee for the event includes race entry, BBQ lunch, zumba, salsa lessons, a cornhole challenge, and a parkour demonstration. 

 

 

4th Annual Alexandria Story Festival: This event, hosted by Wright to Read, includes readingsby 10 well known children's book authors, book signings, and performances. The Festival will be held at TC Williams High School from 10:00am-1:00pm. 

Seaport Day 2013: Alexandria Seaport Foundation is hosting Seaport Day 2013. Activities include wooden boat building, a chowder cook-off, music, and children's activities. The event will be held in Waterfront Park. 


ParkFairfax Native Plant Sale:
The largest native plant sale in the DC metro area will be held at 3601 Valley Drive, Alexandria, VA from 9:00am to 2:00pm. t Park on Prince Street from 10:00am-4:00pm. 

Historic Alexandria Homes Tour: The Twig Junior Auxiliary of Inova Alexandria Hospital is hosting this annual tour of elegant homes and gardens in Old Town Alexandria. All proceeds support Inova Alexandria Twig Surgical Center. This event will run from 10:00am-3:00pm and on-the-day tickets can be purchased at the Ramsey House and Historic Christ Church Parish Hall. 

Sunday, 9/29

Update: This Event has been cancelled. Olde Towne Dogge Walke: Give your canine best friend some exercise and swing by this fundraiser for canine therapy for veterans from 9:00am to 11:00 am in Market Square on King Street. 

Back Alley Blues Boys Performance: Local band, Back Alley Blues Boys, will perform their eclectic mix of blues, country, and rock at this free event at Mount Vernon Avenue at Four Mile Run Park from 10:00am-12:00pm.
