  • Attention Citizens: The City Council is looking for volunteers to fill a number of vacancies on important committees, including the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee and the Alexandria Gang Prevention Task Force.  Members will be selected at the Council's March 22nd meeting.  If interested, fill out this form by 5:00 P.M. on March 11th and return it to the City Clerk's Office.  Your service will ensure that our community is better and safer for all!
  • Join the National Kidney Foundation in the fight against kidney disease.  The 2011 Northern Virginia Kidney Walk takes place on April 3rd.  To register, donate or support a walker, visit the Foundation's official website.  Every year, the event helps the National Kidney Foundation offer free early detection screenings, raise awareness about the disease and support ongoing research.  Support them today!
  • Be sure to mark your calendar. Bike to Work Day will be held on May 20th, 2011. The annual event, sponsored by the Washington Area Byciclist Association and Commuter Connections, promotes a healthy lifestyle, bike safety and enviromental awareness.  You can learn more and register here, 
  • The City's Enviromental Policy Commission and the Office of Enviromental Quality will co-host two meetings on climate change.  Both meetings are open to the public.  The first is scheduled for March 15th and the second for March 26th.  Read this important announcement for more information
  • Earth Hour is Saturday, March 26th.  People in nearly 128 countries and 4,000 cities will participate by going without electricity for a full 60 minutes.  This hour will show that we support energy conservation and the efforts to combat cliamte change.  Turn off your power at 8:30 P.M and support a global effort to save the planet.
