Sign Up to be a Master Food Volunteer Now!

The Alexandria Childhood Obesity Action Network (A-COAN) is partnering with the Virginia Cooperative Extension to develop a Master Food Volunteer Program in Alexandria.  The Master Food Volunteer Program combines your love of cooking, nutrition, physical activity, and helping others!  The corps of volunteers helps the Virginia Cooperative Extension reach more Virginians with up-to-date, research based knowledge on food preparation, nutrition, food safety, and physical activity.

Who Can Become a Volunteer?

Anyone who has an interest in food preparation, nutrition, food safety, or physical activity can apply.  Applicants should possess a desire to enhance their skills and knowledge and enjoy working with people.  There is no prior educational requirement for those interested in becoming a Master Food Volunteer.

Opportunities for Service:

Volunteers help support Extension's family and consumer sciences agents through education and outreach efforts. Participants receive 24 hours of training over four days and at the end of the training, participants are equipped with the knowledge and skills to confidently help others improve their lives through balanced eating and healthy living. In return, participants commit to 30 hours of volunteer service within one year of the training.

Opportunities for service include health fair displays, food demonstrations at farmers' markets, teaching food safety classes, submitting articles to the media on nutrition on wellness, assisting Extension nutrition programs for youth and adults, and much more!
